Getting ready for your shoot

A question I get asked a lot is what should we wear? Always think about colours around your home and where you may display your images - the last thing you want is something you're wearing clashing with your carpet or wallpaper! Avoid really bright colours, patterns and logo/characters. Neutral colours, pastels, black, white and denim always work well.

Newborn shoots - Baby will be mostly nude, plus I have a large selection of little outfits and wraps that we will accessorise with.

Please make sure you bring plenty of milk for baby as a hungry baby will not be settled and sleep well.

If you are using a dummy or considering using one for your little one please bring it along with you - they can be very helpful when settling baby between shots.

It's ideal if when you arrive baby is dressed in something that is easily removed as we want to disturb them as little as possible. My studio is kept at a warm temperature throughout the shoot to ensure their comfort.

Siblings are of course welcome to stay during a newborn shoot but please bear in mind it can be a long time to keep them entertained for. I do recommend having them collected or taken off once we've done their sibling and family shots (usually done at the beginning).

As baby is mostly in the nude including no nappy it is perfectly normal for my blankets and props to be messed on including me! Please do not worry everything in my studio is washable or disposable - it is not a normal newborn session if this doesn't happen at some point!

Cake smashes - Your little one can be brought in an outfit for your 'pre smash' images or of course you're more than welcome to change them into the smash outfit that is provided. I have towels for after the bath tub splash but you're welcome to bring along your own. I do use a small amount of baby bubble bath but if your little one has sensitive skin please bring along your own or just let me know so I don't add any. Smashes can get a little messy for everyone in the room as you can guarantee your little person will need a cuddle at some point!

Please bear in mind that we want your little one to be interested in the cake so if you've booked your shoot around lunch time it is advisable that they have a light lunch.

Babies & children shoots - Feel free to bring around 3 changes of outfits for baby and children shoots.

Lifestyle shoots - You're welcome to bring changes of clothes but as these are location shoots I can't guarantee changing facilities.

My studio is only a small space so please bear this in mind when inviting other people along - babies and children can be easily distracted so if you have a room full of people baby will be quickly loose interest in me and my camera.

Obviously we do live in the UK and our weather can be very unpredictable - therefore please do not worry if the weather isn't as we planned - I will always postpone to the nearest convenient available  date.
